Button mushroom fry
The vegetable stall at the high street near our place sells button mushrooms – 1 pound for a whole basket and my husband keeps buying them! i am normally at a loss when it comes to recipes for vegetables given that i am a pure non-vegetarian who, as my husband says, cannot live without meat or fish.
This is a really quick and simple button mushroom recipe. And surprisingly, very tasty despite the not-so yummy looking colour.
Button mushroom fry:
Things you need

button mushroom
About 20-30 button mushrooms
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon red chilly flakes or powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
Oil for cooking
Salt to taste
What you have to do:
Wash the mushrooms properly taking care to remove all traces of dirt. Slice them into thin pieces – i find slicing mushrooms so comforting..if there is anything like ‘comfort slicing’, this has to be it!
Heat oil in a wok. When hot, add the sliced mushrooms. Add the turmeric, coriander, cumin and chilly powder. Stir well. Note that the mushrooms will release water so don’t panic if you suddenly turn around and see the mushrooms stewing in their own juice! Add salt and fry till all the water dries up and the mushroom is cooked.

Garnish with chopped coriander. Apart from boiled rice (which you must have noticed is pretty much all i can recommend serving all my dishes with), i guess it would be great with rotis.
Another variation has green peas added to it. Just include about half a cup of shelled green peas to the above recipe and viola, you have button mushroom and pea fry
